Risk smells

Many of the most costly problems with websites can be spotted early, if you know what to look for. This skill trains you to notice a risk in a quote, a handover, a colleague's tool or a launch plan, and to ask the question that brings it into the open.

  1. Secrets in the openA password or key shared where you can't tell who has read it is already leaked, and the more it can do, the more damage it does.
  2. Personal data with no planCollecting personal data means deciding first what, why, for how long, who sees it and where it goes.
  3. No way backA backup counts only if it's kept apart and has been restored once, and every risky change needs a way back.
  4. Who controls itEvery account and every running service needs an owner inside the company, and a way out from each provider.
  5. Leaving people outDesigning only for people who see well, use a mouse and own a recent phone shuts others out, and French law requires better from many sites.
